Baltimore Ravens DT Brandon Williams out against Jacksonville Jaguars with foot injury

LONDON — Baltimore Ravens defensive tackle Brandon Williams won’t play Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars after not making the trip overseas because of a foot injury, coach John Harbaugh said Friday. Williams hadn’t practiced this week after leaving in the third quarter of last week’s game. Carl Davis is expected to replace Williams and make his first start since 2015. The loss of Williams comes at a time when Baltimore will face Jaguars rookie running back Leonard Fournette. Williams, who is considered one of the league’s top run-stoppers, signed a…

Rookie running backs have taken things over – Stats & Info

The youth shall inherit the carries. Through the first two weeks of the NFL season, it’s been great to be a rookie running back. Four of the top seven rushing yardage leaders are rookies, including three of the top five. The Elias Sports Bureau tells us that this is unlikely to last. There have never been more than two rookies in the top five in rushing yardage in any season since the NFL and AFL merged in 1970. There have never been more than three rookies to finish in the…

Sammy Watkins, Tavon Austin of Los Angeles Rams evaluated for possible concussions

Los Angeles Rams receivers Sammy Watkins and Tavon Austin were both evaluated for possible concussions late in Thursday night’s 41-39 victory over the San Francisco 49ers, head coach Sean McVay said. Goff tossed three touchdown passes and Gurley scored three total TDs as the Rams once again lit up the scoreboard. Brian Hoyer overcame a bumpy start to keep the 49ers competitive Thursday, but came up short in the end against Jared Goff and the visiting Rams. 1 Related Watkins was having a big game, with six catches for 106…

Denver Broncos tackle Garett Bolles back practicing

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — Denver Broncos rookie left tackle Garett Bolles was back on the practice field Thursday, just four days after he thought a lower left leg injury in the Broncos’ win a 42-17 victory over the Dallas Cowboys would end his season. Bolles suffered the injury on a 5-yard run by Jamaal Charles when Cowboys’ defensive tackle Brian Price fell on Bolles’ left leg in the third quarter. Bolles stayed down on the ground following the play as the Broncos’ medical staff examined his leg and was then taken…

Alex Smith is making 2018 QB decision difficult on Kansas City Chiefs – Kansas City Chiefs Blog

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Ever since trading up in April to draft quarterback Patrick Mahomes II, the Kansas City Chiefs have stood by Alex Smith as their starter for the 2017 season. There was no competition for the starting spot, no quarterback controversy. Smith is repaying the favor. Through two games, he is the NFL’s second-leading passer. He is on pace for 40 touchdowns and almost 5,000 yards. Both would far surpass his personal bests, making Smith a big reason the Chiefs will take a 2-0 record into Sunday’s game…

Marvin Lewis of Cincinnati Bengals discusses Ken Zampese firing

CINCINNATI — Bengals coach Marvin Lewis called it a “very difficult” decision to fire offensive coordinator Ken Zampese last Friday after the team’s 0-2 start. Speaking publicly about the decision for the first time Wednesday, Lewis also cautioned his players that the change of direction wasn’t a magic fix after they failed to score a touchdown in either game. “It’s a step,” Lewis said. “I told the players that on Monday morning. This is not magic. You have to do the work. Offense, defense and special teams all alike. We…

Corey Davis of Tennessee Titans ruled out against Seattle Seahawks

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Titans wide receiver Corey Davis has been ruled out for Sunday’s game against the Seattle Seahawks because of a hamstring injury. Davis originally injured the hamstring in early August and aggravated it during the Titans’ 37-16 win over Jacksonville. “It’s tough for anytime to have to watch a guy who can’t play,” Titans head coach Mike Mularkey said. “It’s so frustrating. He’s so competitive. He thinks he’s letting us down. He’s not letting anybody down. We’re dealing with the NFL. We have injuries. I know he’s frustrated…

Why NFL’s first London game 10 years ago was a messy success

It’s no surprise the NFL has found a home in London, a city with a decade of regular-season games in its past and a full-time franchise potentially in its future. It’s also no surprise that the league found its way there in the first place, after a foundation had been laid by the developmental NFL Europe and years of preseason games starting with the Global Cup in 1983 and continuing with the American Bowl series. What is a surprise is that the league ever decided to return to England after…

Bettor caps big weekend by nailing $263,000 parlay at MGM with Detroit Lions win

An unidentified bettor at an MGM Resorts sportsbook in Las Vegas won $263,000 Monday night, when the underdog Detroit Lions beat the New York Giants to complete a five-team, $8,500 parlay. It’s the largest parlay to hit in recent memory at an MGM sportsbook and easily the largest to cash in the first two weeks of the NFL season, sportsbook manager Jeff Stoneback told ESPN. A controversial decision for a draw in the Gennady Golovkin-Canelo Alvarez fight resulted in disappointment for both bettors and bookmakers in Las Vegas — and…
